Veteran and Mental Health Match Program
My innovative idea is a match program for veterans and anyone facing mental health challenges to find prospective puppies. I choose to avoid labels that are harmful to the mental health community. As someone who lives with depression, severe anxiety, and social anxiety, I know how unfair these labels are; my dogs have helped me grow tremendously, and I want others to find that same bond.
The Match Process
To find the right fit, everyone starts by filling out a questionnaire. This helps me understand your history, your triggers, and your living situation. I also ask important questions from my Essential Placement document to make sure you and the puppy are set up for success, such as:
• What specific, life improving task do you need your prospect to perform?
• Do you have a professional trainer or organization lined up to guide the training process?
• Who is in your support system to help with the care and continued training?
• Are you ready for the higher financial investment required for a large working breed?
• What is your plan if your puppy needs a career change and does not work out for mental health tasks?
Choosing for Temperament, Not Looks
I am very selective with my placements and have a high success rate because I prioritize temperament over looks. You must be willing to listen to my guidance on which puppy fits your environment so you do not end up with a partner you regret.
Health and Safety First
The health of my dogs and puppies is my priority. I do not allow frequent visitors or outside dogs on my property to prevent the spread of disease and keep my mother dogs calm. There are strictly no visitations until the puppies have at least their first set of shots, if not their second. Initial connections are made via video calls, and puppy pickup happens strictly at 8 weeks by appointment.
Payment, Retainers, and Commitment
I am willing to work with people who may not be able to afford a puppy all at once through monthly payment plans. Please understand this is a serious commitment:
• Retainers: If you choose a payment plan, a higher non-refundable retainer fee is required to protect my time and hold your spot.
• Payments: If you decide to back out at any point during the payment plan, any funds already paid are non-refundable.
• Completion: No puppy will leave my care until the payment has been completed in full.
My Lifelong Commitment
I have a strict return policy. If a situation ever fails to work out after you take the dog home, the dog must return to me. I refuse to let my puppies end up in shelters or unsafe homes. Please note that while the dog must be returned for their safety, original purchase payments are not refunded.
