In high school, I was very active in track and cross country. It was an incredibly competitive environment, but it taught me something much deeper than just how to win. I learned that being at the top of your game doesn’t mean you are truly successful if you are only looking out for yourself.
I learned the importance of being humble and the value of real teamwork. True leadership is about being willing to reach down when you see someone else struggling and helping to pick them up so they can reach your level too. You have to be able to put your own ego aside and think about the team as a whole. I’ve carried that lesson with me throughout my life: you should always do your best to help everyone rise, not just yourself.
What is a lesson you learned through sports or a team activity that you still use in your daily life today?
