Something most people don’t understasnd is the breeding business has gotten to a point where people feel they have to hurt each other, and it is sad to see so much cruelty when there is no need for it. When you are just out for yourself and busy putting others down instead of trying to help one another, you are only hurting the breed as a whole. Choosing to judge or automatically assume the worst about someone means you could be missing out on a great friendship or the chance to learn something they know that you don’t.
That same lack of kindness carries over to the dogs because if you aren’t practicing empathy with people, you aren’t going to have it for your animals. People don’t understand what their dogs are actually trying to tell them because they don’t understand the psychology or the body language. When you are focused on the wrong things, you miss the silent signals—the lip licks, the tucked tails, and the furrowed brows—that show a dog is stressed or needs help. All that negativity goes right down the leash to the dog. We have to do better and start working together, because if we can’t be kind to each other, we can’t truly be kind to them.
Have you ever caught yourself misinterpreting your dog’s signals because you were distracted by the stress or negativity of others?
