Something that most people don’t understand is the deep emotional and personal cost of being a dedicated breeder. We put everything we have—our time, our energy, and our entire hearts—into these puppies. It is incredibly hurtful to be insulted by people complaining about prices or to have other breeders bash your methods just because they are different. Society has been brainwashed to believe that if you don’t follow one specific set of tests, you are automatically a “backyard breeder.” The reality is that those tests are just tools, and they are not 100% accurate. They are subject to change based on many different factors like environment, nutrition, or even an injury. Being a good breeder takes so much more than a checklist; it takes true dedication.
The hardest part is when people purchase a dog and then fail to stay consistent or honor the puppy’s needs. It ruins all the hard work you put into them before they even left your home. Just because someone else does things a certain way doesn’t mean my way is wrong. I just wish people would put themselves in our shoes for one day. Come spend the day with me and see how hard it really is and what we actually do. Maybe then you would appreciate breeders a little more instead of always bashing them.
Have you ever had a situation where people judged your hard work without seeing the effort you put in behind the scenes?
