Lessons from the School of Hard Knocks
The School of Hard Knocks has been one of my toughest teachers. Losing litters to something as devastating as parvo felt like a total failure at the time, and those disappointments were incredibly hard to handle. However, those moments forced me to dig deeper into the science of animal health and behavior to ensure I was doing everything possible to protect my dogs.
Those setbacks actually pushed me to enroll at Unity Environmental University to earn my degree. Learning from those early experiences led me to develop a much stricter puppy curriculum and a more focused breeding program at Duty Danes. Without those challenges, I wouldn’t have the deep knowledge or the drive I have now to ensure every dog is healthy and set up to be a perfect service or companion animal. It taught me that a setback is a chance to fix your foundation and come back with a better plan for the dogs and the families who need them.
