Exploring Our Own Backyard: The Giant Sized “To-Do” List
Living here in Michigan, we are surrounded by so many cool spots, yet I still have a “to-do” list of places I haven’t gotten around to visiting with the Danes. We all have those couple of familiar parks we stick to because they’re easy, but I’ve been thinking about all the other experiences I’m missing out on.
I’m talking about more than just a trail walk. I’ve been wanting to find that perfect local ice cream stand where they have “pup cups” big enough for a Dane, or a patio at a dog-friendly spot where we can just sit and practice being calm in public. Taking a Great Dane to a new place is always a production—you have to make sure the paths are wide enough, the seating isn’t too cramped, and that the environment won’t be too overwhelming for a sensitive giant. It’s easy to stay in our comfort zone, but these dogs deserve to experience the world. Pushing ourselves to try a new town or a different local attraction is how we grow together. It’s about taking that “duty” I feel for them and turning it into an adventure that heals both of us.
We take the blue away and put a special kind of blue. Healing Hearts one paw at a time.
Is there a specific attraction, town, or even just a local ice cream shop you’ve been meaning to visit with your Great Dane but haven’t tried yet? What is one “giant-sized” trip you want to check off your list this year?
