Weekly Success Checklist: Week One
Based on the curriculum by Jeanette Forrey (Badass Breeder)
This schedule is designed to help you and your puppy find your rhythm during your first week together. By following these steps, you are building a foundation of trust and respect.
The Golden Rule: Protect the Immune System
Your puppy is not yet fully vaccinated. Do not take them to public parks, pet stores, or any areas where unknown dogs have been. Keep them safe at home and in your private yard until your vet gives the all-clear.
Daily Routine Tasks
• Potty Log: Mark down every successful trip to the designated potty area.
• Feeding Schedule: Consistency is key for predictable potty habits.
• Crate Training: Practice short, positive sessions to build comfort.
Training and Engagement
• The Name Game: Say their name and reward them for making eye contact.
• The 10-Step Recall: Use the high-pitched “Puppy, puppy, puppy!” call and have them follow you for 10 steps.
• Boundary Management: Remind everyone—no jumping on furniture or beds.
Mental Health and Rest
• Free Play: Enjoy supervised playtime with age-appropriate toys.
• Classical Music: Play calming music to signal that it is time to relax and go “night-night.”
