I am currently working toward my Bachelors of Science in Animal Health and Behavior and holding a 3.95 GPA. After I finish my Bachelors, I plan to get my Masters and then my PhD to become an animal behaviorist. In the meantime, I am continuing to run my kennel.
I am currently holding off on breeding because I am starting from scratch and learning from my own experiences without mentorship, as it seems people just do not want to help each other anymore. I want to make sure everything is done correctly and properly planned out, so I am taking my time to ensure I have everything set up right while I focus on school.
My dogs have helped me change my life for the better and made my mental health issues more manageable. Having seen myself change so much for the better, I want to pay this forward and help others find that same growth and healing.
In the meantime, I am working on building my Facebook group, Michigan Great Danes and Surrounding Areas. My goal is to create a safe zone for breeders, prospective owners, and Dane lovers to come together as a family to ask questions and help each other out without judgment or rudeness.
God knows we all make mistakes, and I have certainly made mine, but I am always learning. I believe that if we can help each other learn and grow, we will be stronger for the betterment of the breed and simply become better people. We can even learn from our dogs how to just be better for each other.
I am sick and tired of the labels and the rudeness, not just from breeders, but from people in general on Facebook. We all started out as beginners at one point, and the level of disrespect people show when others are just trying to ask questions is insane. Whether it is starting a business with a kennel or just the dream of owning your first Great Dane puppy, I have seen people’s joy taken away so much and it just makes my heart sad. No one should lose hope or give up on their dreams because of how others treat them. We are here to be good role models and good citizens. We should educate and help people, not knock them down.
We should be here to better the breed and continue our passion by helping each other, not by stabbing each other in the back. We have a responsibility to educate and teach people to help make this breed better, but we are failing at this because people cannot learn to get along.
I am starting over and moving forward from the mistakes I have made in the past. We should all learn to be more like our dogs.
